Low Bandwidth? No problem

Many of us are creating panopto videos in a setting where the upload times for videos is a big challenge.  Luckily, it's possible to created a Powerpoint-based Panopto video that doesn't record a video on your local computer, which can dramatically reduce the time required to upload your presentation.

When you Record:

When you press record (on both PC and Mac), you will switch over to your powerpoint presentation.

If you have not done this before, you may be asked to grant Panopto permission to "control" powerpoint. Follow the directions to grant that permission.

Then, inside powerpoint, go into "Presentation" mode and give your presentation.

Panopto will track the time stamps of your slide changes along with the audio of your presentation.

When you finish

Panopto will upload the audio of your presentation (much smaller than a video file would be) and your powerpoint slides (much smaller than a video of those slides would be).  Then, it will build the presentation out of the two files.

Once the processing is complete, you will get an email letting you know that the video is ready to be reviewed.  If you're happy with the finished product, you can then share it with your class.
