A Message from Dean Rodney Miller 

There is an old proverb: 鈥淢arch winds and April showers bring forth May flowers.鈥� In some ways, this is a metaphor for what we have all been experiencing with the pandemic. For the College of Fine Arts, the metaphor has even deeper levels of significance--just as the flowers start to open up their blossoms, so will the College begin its slow, but steady, opening up of in-person performances and presentations. One of the most frustrating aspects of this past year (and as I write this, it has been exactly one year) has been the disconnect from our patrons that was forced upon us. This separation was worsened because of missed opportunities for public performances, exhibitions, and presentations by our students. With this newsletter, we begin the process of announcing our crescendo of opportunities to rectify that--with the cautious acknowledgement that we still have miles to go, and prudent precautions to adhere to before a true and full slate of opportunities presents itself. Stay tuned, however, for our announcements. That is what we are aiming for.

Town Distinguished Professor of Organ and Associate Professor at 麻豆破解版 State University. You will discover the great Marcussen pipe organ in Wiedemann Hall, built each for the other in 1986.

These are semi-staged performances with the 麻豆破解版 State Orchestra.  
 
The Old Maid and the Thief: Originally written for radio performances, this comedy shows how 鈥渢he devil couldn't do what a woman can: make a thief of an honest man鈥�.
 
Amelia Goes to the Ball: All Amelia wants is to go to the ball--and she will do nearly anything to get there. Who will she end up going with?

Jazz Connoisseur Event--WSU Jazz Arts Ensemble I with guest artist Bobby Watson & Banda Hispanica

This concert features internationally renowned jazz saxophonist as featured guest artist with the Jazz Arts I Ensemble. Also on the concert is Banda Hispanica, directed by John Goering.

Ulrich Museum hosts the XXIII Faculty Biennial: It's All Part of the Process

The Faculty Biennial is the longest-running series of exhibitions at the Ulrich Museum, and represents the breadth of creative work and research being undertaken by the faculty of the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries (ADCI). The 2021 edition is on display from January 21st through May 8th, and will showcase the faculty鈥檚 work in art history, art education, ceramics, curatorial practice, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and new media. The biennial鈥檚 theme, It鈥檚 All Part of the Process, seeks to prompt reflections and start conversations about each faculty member鈥檚  personal process, highlighting the diversity of activities that contribute to creative practice, from research to studio time to interactions with colleagues and students, and beyond.

WSU community members invited to share their unique stories of home for Ulrich exhibition

Sharing Matrilineal Memories at WSU, the fourth exhibition in the Solving for X = Identity series, is participatory, focused on collecting memories of home from WSU students, faculty, staff, alumni, and retirees.
 
All submitted stories and images will be included in the Solving for X exhibition and on display in the Ulrich鈥檚 Grafly Gallery from January 21 鈥� May 8, 2021.
 
On May 4th, 2021, students in Sociology, Dance, and the Honors College will present their research and choreographed performances in response to these collected memories as part of the Ulrich exhibition Solving for X=Identity: Sharing Matrilineal Memories at WSU. The performances are at 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Both performances will take place outdoors on the front terrace of the Museum to allow for appropriate social distancing. Masks are required.

Fine Arts Features

Fine Arts Features is a new series of conversations with the Faculty and Staff of the College of Fine Arts here at 麻豆破解版 State. This singular group of artists, artisans and scholars is comprised of people who have performed and presented all over the world, and who continue to work internationally, many having achieved international prominence for that work. There is one thing, however, that they share in common--their commitment to teach, train and mentor our students so they might mark their mark in the world as well. Each segment of Fine Arts Features is an in-depth conversation with a member of this august body. Join us as we get to know the real person--what makes them who they are and why they have a passion for their art and for our students.
