Welcome! We hope the following checklists help you prepare for your first few semesters as a College of Health Professions student.
Checklist for New CHP Students
Financial Aid and Scholarships
Complete the FAFSA. If you have questions about your financial aid, reach out to the Office of Financial Aid.
Apply for scholarships using ScholarshipUniverse.
Orientation
Sign up for orientation. Attend orientation. Your orientation guide book will provide you with a wealth of resources to help you feel at home at 鶹ƽ State.
Students who do not complete orientation requirements have a hold placed on their account which will restrict enrollment for future semesters.
Enroll in Classes
Schedule an enrollment appointment with a College of Health Professions academic advisor. This appointment will address items crucial to your success as a new CHP student. Your advisor can answer questions about your major and will walk you through the process of class registration. Call our office at 316-978-4744 to schedule a time to meet.
If you need placement exams for math or English, please complete these prior to your appointment.
Transcripts
Once grades are posted for any college work currently in progress, submit final transcripts to 鶹ƽ State. If you have AP or CLEP credit, these transcripts should also be sent.
Pay for Classes
Your bill can be viewed in your . Go to the "myFinances" tab and click on "Student Account Suite". IMPORTANT: Students are responsible to drop any class they decide not to attend. 鶹ƽ State does not cancel student registration for non-payment. Advisors cannot drop students from classes. Refer to the semester calendar for the 100% tuition refund drop date.
Buy your Books
Course material for courses are made available in BlackBoard and course material charges are added to your student account. Students who wish to purchase course materials elsewhere must opt out.
Get your Shocker Card
Purchase a Parking Permit
Parking permits are required for the main campus. Visit the parking website and find information on how to purchase a parking permit.
Check your shockers.wichita.edu email account on a regular basis. Set up your email signature to include your name and WSU ID (A123B456). IMPORTANT: Your email login (A123B456@wichita.edu) is different than your email address (fmlastname@shockers.wichita.edu).
Plan Ahead
Prior to the first week of class, review your semester schedule to ensure you know when, where, and how your classes meet. If you have questions, email your CHP Advisor directly or email our office at chp.advisor@wichita.edu.
Review for announcements from your professors and review syllabi for your classes. Note important semester deadlines in your planner.
Checklist for Your First Semester
Know your Shocker Resources
Bookmark the University Resources website for easy access to different offices across campus. Reach out if you need assistance and take advantage of resources that contribute to your success. If you don't know who to contact, email your academic advisor at chp.advisor@wichita.edu.
Review your Degree Works Audit
Your Degree Works audit is located on the "myClasses" screen in your myWSU portal. Confirm that all prior college coursework is posted and review outstanding requirements prior to your advising appointment. You should review your audit at least twice every semester: prior to registration and after registration. You should also review your audit after making any changes to your course registration (dropping and adding classes). If you have any questions, contact your CHP advisor.
Schedule an Advising Appointment
CHP students are welcome to schedule an appointment any time in the semester if they have questions or want to review application requirements for their program. All CHP students who are undecided or have completed fewer than 60 credit hours are required to meet with an advisor every semester for next- semester planning. Find out More about your Major
CHP competitive-entry programs offer information sessions on a regular basis. Some of these sessions require that you register to attend. Visit your program website for a list of upcoming sessions.
Thoroughly review your program's website. Be sure you understand your timeline for application, minimum requirements for application, and selection criteria (if applicable). CHP degree check sheets and links to program websites may be found here.
Get Connected
The College of Health Professions and 鶹ƽ State offer many opportunities for student involvement. Check out CHP student organizations and explore www.wichita.edu/seal for other opportunities.
Check your Progress at the End of the Semester
You are expected to know the grade and GPA requirements for your intended program. Check your grades and GPA at the end of each semester by viewing your unofficial transcript or Degree Works audit. Links to both are available on the "myClasses" screen in your myWSU portal.
If you need to retake a class, contact your CHP Advisor right away to discuss your semester-by-semester plan revision.
