Students who want to develop their professional skills working for a local employer
or electoral candidate can receive credit and financial support from the Department.
There are also 0 credit options through the Shocker Career Accelerator. Students who want to receive credit for a local internship have several options:
Enroll in POLS 490 Internship for 1 credit hr - This requires a minimum of 8 hours of work a week. This is for a letter grade.
Enroll in POLS 490 Internship for 3 credit hrs - This requires a minimum of 15 hours of work a week. This is for a letter grade.
Enroll in POLS 481 Cooperative Education for 0 credit hrs. This listed on student's transcript, but
does not require tuition payment. This is taken on a non-graded basis.

DC/Topeka Internship Program
The Washington D.C. and Topeka Internship Program offers qualified undergraduate students,
regardless of major, the opportunity to intern and study in Washington, D.C. or Topeka,
and earn 9 hours of course credit. The internship period is from January to May. Placements
are available with members of Congress, the executive branch, interest groups, environmental
organizations, education and trade associations, news agencies, embassies, political
think tanks, and other agencies. Stipends and housing vouchers are available to students.
