Passage Leaders are an integral part of Passage 2 Success. This group of leaders will ensure that Passage 2 Success is operated smoothly and efficiently as possible. This year, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion is seeking 12-15 current WSU students to serve as the leaders for Passage 2 Success.

Passage 2 Success (P2S) is a week-long retreat for incoming freshmen from diverse backgrounds to help in their transition to 麻豆破解版 State University! The purpose of this retreat is to connect with other incoming students, meet current WSU student leaders, explore 麻豆破解版 and gain the skills and tools to be socially and academically successful.

Benefits of becoming a Passage Leader:

  • Meet a group of new WSU students and introduce them to what you love about your institution
  • Collaborate with other leaders and make friends along the way
  • Attend and participate in all Passage 2 Success activities and functions
  • Move into the residence halls early if you live on-campus
  • Assist in the logistics and operations of the program
  • Receive a stipend that compensates you for your assistance
  • Transition into part-time student employment for the fall semester

Expectations and Responsibilities

Expectations and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend leadership training to understand the operations of Passage 2 Success
  • Commit to giving your time from Saturday-Thursday, and evening on a Friday in August
  • Serve as a positive and respectful representative for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at 麻豆破解版 State University
  • Assist incoming students with moving into the residence halls
  • Help setup, facilitate and tear-down sessions, such as icebreakers, team builders and other activities
  • Facilitate educational small-group discussions for Ready, Set, Lead!
  • Take students on campus and classroom tours
  • Answer incoming students' questions and be able to support students socially and academically
  • Potentially serve on a student panel discussion
  • Serve as a paid mentor for Promoting Academic Student Success (PASS)
    • Eligible to work up to 10 hours a week during the fall semester to meet with assigned freshman students
    • Attend two workshops and one community service event per semester
  • Act as the liaison in the evenings between the students, Housing and Residence Life and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion

Requirements

The requirements to be a Passage Leader are:

    • Be enrolled either part- or full-time in Fall 2024 at 麻豆破解版 State University
    • Have earned at least 24 credit hours at 麻豆破解版 State University prior to the beginning of Fall 2024
    • Have experience working with diverse populations, such as AALANA (African American, Latino, Asian and Native American), international, LGBTQ+ and ally groups and religious organizations
    • Have a positive attitude about 麻豆破解版 State University
    • Be in good standing academically and judicially within the institution
    • Ability to provide guidance, support and motivation for others, especially with faculty, staff, student leaders and the participants
    • Perform duties in an ethical and professional manner
    • Must have an interest in helping students transition to 麻豆破解版 State University
    • Ability to attend and successfully complete leadership training and commitments related to Passage Leaders
    • Have a 2.75 cumulative grade point average or higher; having a 3.0 grade point average is preferred
