University of Veracruz 2023
By School of Performing Arts
In 2018, facilitated by past program director of dance Professor Nick Johnson, the
麻豆破解版 State University (WSU) dance program took students for an exchange of performance
and classes to the University of Veracruza (UV), Xalapa, Veracruz Mexico. At that
time, School of Performing Arts (SPA) Director, Cheyla Clawson, was a faculty member
on the tour and was incredibly impressed with the culture and community of the arts
at UV. Seeing the deep impact to WSU students on the trip, the potential of a future
partnership was born.
鈥淎t UV the arts are all together on one campus (dance, theatre, music, and visual
arts). The atmosphere is incredibly creative and collaborative which directly aligns
with our school values. Additionally, the opportunity to have an international cultural
exchange for our students, faculty and staff is an important component of our school
curriculum and vision of global, artistic citizenship. During our most recent visit
in February 2023, SPA Associate Director, Amy Baker Schwiethale, and I discussed plans
for future exchanges of creative scholarship, residencies, and student workshops to
enhance and broaden artistic and cultural knowledge for both of our schools. Working
with the leadership at UV and WSU, we plan to formalize a partnership beginning in
2024.鈥 ~ Cheyla Clawson, SPA Director
鈥淕etting to work with the arts students and faculty at the University of Veracruz
in Xalapa, Mexico was spectacular! The exchange of ideas was fascinating, the students
were passionate and fearless in class, and we instantly felt like family. It is a
truly special place that we hope to share with our students someday soon.鈥 -Amy Baker
