Information Assurance and Cybersecurity


Certificate Requirements

Students will complete 12 credit hours 鈥 9 hours of required coursework and 3 hours of electives. With the help of the required courses, students will develop a strong and sound foundation of current data and network systems, security and privacy challenges in these systems and fundamental cryptographic and cybersecurity techniques to overcome these challenges.


Required courses:
CS 736 鈥 Data Communication Networks (3 credit hours)
CS 766 鈥 Information Assurance & Security (3 credit hours)
CS 767 鈥 Foundations of Network Security (3 credit hours)

Electives (choose one):
CS 898AB 鈥 Privacy Enhancing Techniques (3 credit hours)
CS 898AM 鈥 Cyber-Physical Systems (3 credit hours)
CS 898AN 鈥 Cloud Computing Security (3 credit hours)

Completion process:

In the semester in order to meet the certificate requirements students must:

  • Submit a Plan of Study for the certificate to the Graduate School
  • Submit an Application for Graduate Certificate, along with the $15.00 filing fee, online through the Graduation Links channel in the myWSU portal, no later than the 20th day of classes for the fall or spring semester or the 10th day of classes for the summer semester
  • A cumulative grade point average of 3.000 must be maintained for all courses comprising the certificate program with no grades that generate fewer than 2.00 credit points per credit hour
