Microgrid @ John Bardo Center: A grit from Evergy provides research and educational opportunities to ECE studentsWell-wishers and donors can help the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department create new opportunities and sustain existing programs. Areas with critical needs in the department are undergraduate scholarships to promote diversity, enhancing facilities to promote applied learning, graduate fellowships to enhance teaching opportunities, student travel funds, faculty development, and alumni engagement. General donations will be used by the department leadership to support the department鈥檚 objectives in line with the university's mission.
The ECE Department welcomes Permanently Endowed Funds, which will help the department maintain excellence in specific areas. Your endowment will be maintained in separate account to preserve your identity, and the purpose of the gift. The ECE Department works very closely with College of Engineering and to help the donors identify appropriate philanthropic opportunities.

Recently Evergy celebrated a successful partnership with one of our faculty members, Dr. Ward Jewell, by honoring him with a named faculty fellowship.
General Gifts
Each contribution makes a huge impact to the ECE Department. Based on the needs, the department would make use of your gift to enhance student experience. The current continual needs are epically in supporting student travel to professional conferences, supporting the activities of IEEE and IEEE-HKN, and supporting professional guests. One of our faculty members, Dr. M. Edwin Sawan, created an Endowed Scholarship for international graduate students. Sawan family established this fellowship in memory of his wife, Maha 鈥淢aggie鈥 Sawan. This honors her lifelong dedication to education and service to family and community.
Dr. Sawan is a devoted teacher in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Even though he retired in 2009, he continues his commitment to provide excellent education to our students.
Endowed Gifts
Your investment in specific gifts targeted towards student experience, faculty development and general excellence would strengthen the department鈥檚 growth. Some of the ideas to support the department are:
- Named Scholarships: This will provide support to undergraduate students who are interested in specializing in certain areas within the ECE department.

- Named Memorial Endowment: This will permanently memorialize a ECE member or well-wisher and provide a permanent revenue stream to be applied on an annual basis.
