Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
Our Commitment
Once more, light has been shed on the systemic racism in our country with the deaths of African Americans and the significant outcry across our nation and the world. At the Â鶹Æƽâ°æ State Public Policy and Management Center, we have given thought to how or what we can do to be part of the solution of change for equity and inclusion. We ask ourselves, “What is our role in helping organizations and communities address systemic racism, exclusion and inequity? How do we help move beyond words of outrage to actions of impact?" The short answer is we are not sure AND we are committed to figuring it out.
Here is where we are in the discussion:
- Education is critical. We will start by educating ourselves. Through a monthly commitment, our staff will read, watch, or listen to items that expand our understanding of racism, equity, and inclusion. We will also focus our work regarding racism, equity, and inclusion in management, policy, and public engagemnet, because that is our wheelhouse. We will share our journey and resources with your organization.
- Listening and uncomfortable conversations are essential. Our team is committed to having difficult conversations internally and externally on race, equity, and incluse that require courage and vulnerability. Our deisre to make change will be greater than our desire to remain uncomfortable.
- Long-term commitment is the only option. Progress on anything difficult and multifaceted takes time and commitment. Our commitment to racial equity and inclusion cannot exist only during moments of crisis. The PPMC is committed to sharing monthly resources to help all organizations and communities address systemic racism, inequity, and exclusion. We hope you will join us on this journey so that all of our organizations, communities, and reisdents have the opportunity to thrive. These conversations belong to all of us, and we welcome your thoughts and feedback.
