Task Set: Extra Credit
Congratulations! You have come a long way since Task Set 1. You have a lot to be proud of. You now have the basic skills necessary to consider becoming an online teacher even when it is not a time of emergency. But there is more to quality online instruction than learning how to use your tools. Online instructors use a unique and research-based pedagogy that sometimes differs markedly from the techniques common to the in-person class. If you are interested in learning more about online pedagogy, OIR can suggest some resources for you. The goal of Extra Credit is to guide instructors in their exploration of online teaching a craft.
Things to do:
- Explore OIR's Guidance: the Office of Instructional Resources has put together many resources for instructors who are new to teaching online. These resources are a good place to begin.
- Explore the Chronicle of Higher Education's
- Make sure you are subscribed to Teaching Today, the monthly newsletter produced by the Office of Instructional Resources. It has regular training in Blackboard tools and provides pedagogical tips for online teaching.
