Terms and Definitions
Project Definition:
A project is a requested activity or operation that has a distinct beginning and end and clearly defined scope and resources. A project is unique in that it requires a specific set of operations designed to accomplish defined goals.
ITS Projects are measured by person hours (labor hours). Projects are either:
- Greater than 80 person hours or,
- Involve multiple departments
Project Request:
A Project Request is a request for a project that will be evaluated, and will eventually (if approved) be converted to a project.

Detail design work and detailed schedule or Agile cards are estimated and prioritized for the first two sprints. Purchases are made. |
Build |
All work to build or configure. |
Deploy |
User Acceptance Testing (UAT), go live and warranty period. |
Closure |
5 closing activities including project sign off, hand over to support, closing all tasks, lessons learned and approval to close. |
Complete |
Customer is satisfied and project is done. |
Cancelled |
Project is no longer needed, it will not restart. |
Hold |
Project will restart sometime in the future. |
Health:
ITS designates a project overall health of finishing as Green - no issues; Yellow - some issues however, solutions are being put into place to allow the project to complete, a new time line may be needed; Red - project has one or more issues currently preventing it from finishing. Full truth in project management reporting is required and expected of all team members, Project Managers and Directors.
