Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tools and Resources Webinar Series: Nutrient Explorer: March 13, 2024

鈥淓xcess nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) in lakes can lead to eutrophication, hypoxia, and algal blooms that may harm aquatic life and people. Some U.S. states have established numeric water quality criteria for nutrients to protect surface waters. However, monitoring to determine if criteria are being met is limited by resources and time. EPA鈥檚 Nutrient Explorer can help managers locate and prioritize areas where nutrients in surface waters are predicted to exceed certain water quality thresholds.   Nutrient Explorer is a downloadable tool for modeling relationships between watershed land use, climate, and other variables and surface water nutrient concentrations. This interactive application allows users to explore spatial patterns and temporal trends in surface water nutrient datasets and can be applied by decision makers to different locations and surface water bodies to identify the most influential drivers of excess nutrient concentrations and to prioritize watersheds for restoration.鈥&苍产蝉辫; Note, other upcoming webinars in this series include 鈥淭ire Crumb Research鈥 and 鈥淲ildfires.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

Away from the office, I love spending time with my family, playing with my kids, adding to my growing vinyl record collection, watching my beloved Colorado Avalanche hockey team, and catching up on movie/TV show recommendations.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

Two Separate Routing Forms Now Required for Project Submissions

The Office of Research has implemented the use of two separate routing forms for each sponsored project submission.  Two routing forms will now be required: a compliance routing form and a budget routing form.  The goal is to obtain more compliance information early in the proposal process, initiating any research compliance discussions that need to take place prior to submission.  The compliance routing form requires information about items such as export/import, protected health or identifying information, foreign collaborations, human and animal subjects research, and hazardous materials.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with these new forms.  Email proposals@wichita.edu with any questions about routing form changes.
