Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) STEM Hub: 2022-2023 Grant Training Webinar Series:

The NSF HSI STEM Resource Hub Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 webinar series focuses on
celebrating and learning from successful NSF HSI awardees. We host panels of successful
PIs on specific topics that will engage our audience and support grant writing efforts
for those planning a proposal submission. This webinar series focuses on a broad array
of topics that promote student success, wellness and diversity and inclusion. Dr.
Martha Desmond and Dr. Delia Valles are the hosts for this series. The HSI STEM Hub
recommends participation in these webinars to learn from successful awardees, particularly
if you are currently writing a proposal or are interested in writing a proposal to
secure a grant. The September 8, 2023 topic is 鈥淥nline Adaptation to Promote Student
Success鈥 (rescheduled from May 5, 2023).

Learn to Use BeoShock for your Advanced Research Computing Needs
麻豆破解版 State University continues to host Beoshock, a High-Performance Computing
Cluster (HPC). This HPC is available and free to faculty members, researchers and
students engaged in course work or research activities. BeoShock runs the CentOS Linux
operating system and features approximately 720 processor cores, two high memory compute
nodes with 1.5 terabytes of memory, and four graphics processing unit (GPU) accelerators.
BeoShock also has a variety of software tools that may be helpful in your research
endeavors, such as Matlab, Mathematica, R, Python and many more.

Office of Research EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT 鈥 Laura Pham
Laura joined the Office of Research in February of 2022 as a Grants Coordinator on
the Pre-Award Team, and by July of 2022, she was promoted to the position of Contracts
and Grants Specialist. Laura attended College of the Ozarks, receiving a Bachelor
of Science in Ag. Horticulture. She utilized her degree by working at Botanica for
seven years, beginning as an intern, continuing all the way to the first staff gardener
position for the Downing Children鈥檚 Garden. She then chose to utilize her minor in
Sociology and worked as an Activities and Admissions Coordinator for the Timbers Apartments
at the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation. Laura is glad to have now found her career
home in WSU, loving the challenges and variety involved with working in the Office
of Research. Her husband of 13 years, Quy, also works at WSU as the Executive Catering
Chef for Chartwells. Together they love spending time fishing, reading and gaming
with their sons, Thomas (9) and Eli (3).
National Science Foundation (NSF) Seeks Workshop Proposals on NSF Research on Research
Security Program (RRSP)
To more fully understand the nature, scope, challenges, and potential of research
security across all research, particularly in the context of National Security Presidential
Memorandum-33 and associated supporting documents, NSF is developing a new Research
on Research Security Program.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Spring 2023 Virtual Grants Conference Recordings
Available
Presentations and recordings of NSF sessions are available in the resource center
on demand. Topics include proposal preparation, award management, CAREER program
guidance and more.
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Requiring Promoting Inclusive and Equitable Research
(PIER Plans)
Beginning in FY 2023, all DOE Office of Science Funding Opportunity Announcements
and DOE National Lab Announcements and other funding solicitations will require applicants
to submit a Promoting Inclusive and Equitable Research (PIER) Plan as an appendix
to their proposal narrative. PIER Plans should describe the activities and strategies
applicants will incorporate to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
in their research projects. PIER Plans will be evaluated as part of the merit review
process and will be used to inform funding decisions.
National Academies Accepting Applications for New Voices in Sciences, Engineering
and Medicine 鈥 Due by August 10, 2023
鈥淣ew Voices in Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is a cohort-based leadership program
that promotes collaboration among outstanding early- and mid-career scientists, engineers,
and medical professionals during a two-year term of service. We are seeking U.S.-based
emerging leaders in all disciplines of the sciences, engineering, and medicine with
an established track record of professional excellence and demonstrated commitment
to service beyond their immediate discipline and institution. Individuals with under-represented
backgrounds in the sciences, engineering, and medicine and/or demonstrated interest
in science communication, international scientific collaboration, and science policy
advice are encouraged to apply.鈥
