“Join panelists from the National Science Board (NSB) and the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) for a discussion on the importance of state-level data for researchers, program managers and decision-makers. The event will be held online on April 21 from 2 -3 p.m. Eastern time. Registration is required to attend. We will explore the powerful tools available for researching U.S. state trends and indicators in science and engineering education, workforce, research and development, patents and publications, and knowledge-intensive industries. State legislators, colleges and universities, and local governing bodies are invited to learn how to best utilize these and other data resources to inform local decision-making around science and engineering.”
National Science Foundation (NSF) Rules of Life to Address Societal Challenges Virtual Series: Levering AI and Data for Predicting Mechanisms: April 26, 2022
“In 2016, NSF unveiled a set of "Big Ideas," 10 bold, long-term research and process ideas that identified unique opportunities to position our Nation at the cutting edge of global science and engineering by bringing together diverse disciplinary perspectives to support convergence research. One of those, Understanding the Rules of Life: Predicting Phenotype, is based on developing a predictive understanding of how key properties of living systems emerge from interactions of factors such as genomes, phenotypes, and dynamic environments. As NSF considers ways to promote use-inspired research that reaches beyond curiosity-driven science, we seek multidisciplinary, community feedback on how researchers can use the emerging Rules of Life to address societal challenges by combining approaches from among all the scientific disciplines, including engineering; mathematics; physical sciences; computer science; geosciences; social, behavioral, and economic sciences; as well as the breadth of biological sciences. To this end, we announce a series of free Virtual Events centered on Using the Rules of Life to Address Societal Challenges. The goal is to bring together researchers with diverse perspectives -- including those from all scientific disciplines, with various levels of experience (from senior scientists to postdocs), from different types of institutions or organizations, and from historically underrepresented groups in STEM -- to share ideas about how Rules of Life approaches and data might be harnessed by multidisciplinary teams to tackle pressing societal challenges.”
Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation: Spring Knowledge Challenge Showcase: April 28, 2022
“Join us for our Spring Knowledge Challenge Showcase, which will feature short presentations by Kauffman Knowledge Challenge grantees. Their work focuses on activities that improve our understanding of entrepreneurship and generate practical, actionable, and rigorous evidence to inform decision making and create systems change. The event is open to the public, and we encourage entrepreneurs, researchers, policymakers, entrepreneur support organizations, and community members to join and learn about how this research can inform your work.”
