Maria chose to continue her education at WSU and compete in . Originally a hurdler, she now primarily competes in the heptathlon. She had made the Dean's Honor Roll, the , and every semester she has been enrolled at WSU. An adventurous and enthusiastic person who loves challenges and learning, Maria credits her experiences abroad with widening her perspective of how she sees the world. She enjoys innovative problem solving and identifies one of her defining qualities as creative and outside-the-box thinking. Maria aims to change the world by sharing her story, experience, and knowledge with the intent to inspire others to strive for their goals and journey outside of their comfort zone. Maria volunteers for many track meets in both Spain and 鶹ƽ. She helps with organizing, collaborating, and assisting the officials. She participates in different events with children such as , where WSU athletes go to area elementary schools to read. Maria has volunteered with other organization to benefit the environment, people with disabilities, and low-income families.
Maria has been involved with Widener-GLP through the planning stage as the student assistant to the Widener-GLP director. She is most looking forward to getting to know the other Widener-GLP participants. She believes they will learn from each other’s experiences and share knowledge. Maria is also looking forward to learning about Music because her knowledge of the subject is limited.
Maria’s dream job is to work for the marketing or communication department of a company within the airline, sports, or technology industry. Ultimately, she wants a job where she can travel, meet new people, and take care of the environment. She is interested in research, strategy, campaign development, branding, and community engagement. Her long-term goal consists of working for a company that positively impacts the world such as Google, Airbus, Nike, or Greenpeace.
