Deborah Butterfield’s Lumen is a beautiful piece from a body of work that the artist has been expanding since the mid-1970s. Throughout the course of her long career, Deborah Butterfield has returned over and over to images of horses and has created them from all kinds of materials, including scrap metal and discarded auto parts. Her most iconic pieces are carefully constructed from sticks and other pieces of found wood which are then cast in bronze, re-assembled, and welded together.
