10 Must-Have Dorm Room Essentials

10. Whiteboard for Roommate(s)

10/10 recommend getting a whiteboard for your dorm so that you and your roommates can leave notes for the day. Whether that be morning mantras, grocery lists or just letting them know when you'll be back home.

9. All the Throw Blankets

A must-have for movie nights and Mario Kart tournaments. These are also great for spontaneous forts or a make-your-own-weighted-blanket during finals week.

8. Febreze

With the no open heating policy in all our dorm options, that unfortunately means no candles. Don't worry, I'm crying on the inside with you, but it is for the safety of all our residents. Febreze is a great alternative to help get your room smelling nice and clean (even when it's not).

7. Toilet Paper

Now, you may be thinking: "This shouldn't be on the list?" Well, in that case, you're wrong. Toilet paper is not something most people have on their minds until they need it. Stock up for a bit so you don't have to stress and then replenish when it gets low.

Pro Tip: On move-in day, pack a bag with things you will need as soon as you get into your new room. Make sure you have a roll of toilet paper in there because someone will need to go while you are setting everything up.

6. Over-The-Door Organizer

These are great for anything and everything. Two doors? Get two over-the-door organizers. The more doors the better because you can store anything from snacks to shoes to medicine to literally anything that fits! For my TikTok fans: If you think there are more doors than wheels, I'm sad to say you're incorrect.

5. Water Bottle

Want to save money in the long run while also helping the environment? The answer is a reusable water bottle. Fill up at the numerous fountains around campus rather than buying packs of plastic water bottles over and over again. How else are you supposed to show off your impressive sticker collection?

4. Mattress Pad

This one sort of goes without saying, but don't skimp when it comes to comfort. Sleep is so important, especially during your time at college, so don't be afraid to splurge a little if you can swing it.

3. Downy Wrinkle Releaser

If you're planning to bring an iron to school, let me stop you right there. I would guess that 2% of students who bring an iron actually use it. A steamer may be a better choice, but as a college student, time is your most valuable resource. Just a quick spray and you have unwrinkled clothes smelling nice!

2. 10-Foot Phone Charger

Let's be honest, we are all tied to our phones, and they are bound to run out of battery. Having a 10-foot phone charger allows you to use an outlet that's far away, which is great for busy days in the student center or even just in a lofted bed.

1. Hamper with Wheels

This is an absolute necessity! Especially if you live in Shocker Hall, you will have to walk to the laundry room and it's no fun lugging a heavy load of dirty clothes. Also, for any students going home and taking a load of laundry with them, that walk to your car is going to be a rough one if your hamper doesn't have wheels.

I hope this lineup helps you start that packing list for your move-in day! Follow us on , and for more great blogs, videos, student highlights and other on-campus events. You won't want to miss out, and as always-- Go Shockers!
