The field of text technologies combines scholarly study with creative production and public-facing research on analog and digital media. The study of English has traditionally focused on reading printed texts on paper. Curriculum

This minor challenges students to reconsider assumptions about textuality and investigate its role in our world by asking questions like: How are texts designed and used? What is the relationship between writing and power? What patterns can we uncover in the histories of literature, media and information technology? Why are humans motivated to write and record ideas?

You'll train in interdisciplinary thinking about how and where people access texts, from ancient scrolls to digital audiobooks. By integrating literature, writing and media studies with digital methods in coding, game design and publishing, the minor offers disciplinary diversity in its methods and in the kinds of work you'll complete.
