Admission to the program

To be admitted into the dental hygiene program, you must:

  • Be enrolled in, or admitted to, WSU
  • Have completed, or have plans to complete, the prerequisite requirements the spring semester before beginning the fall program
  • Have an overall minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Submit application materials by the established deadline

Inside the Program

Students gain real-world experience through dental hygiene clinic and community education

As a dental hygiene student, you'll gain hands-on experience at the Delta Dental of Kansas Foundation Dental Hygiene Clinic, the state's largest. The clinic offers low-cost preventative, therapeutic, and educational services to the public. Students perform cleanings, take x-rays, and assist with procedures under the supervision of licensed instructors and dentists, receiving real-time guidance.

Students also engage in community activities, such as education programs at local schools and senior centers, highlighting the importance of oral hygiene for overall health.

Curriculum

The entry-level program curriculum lasts five semesters. You鈥檒l start your coursework in your junior year after completion of all prerequisite courses and general education requirements. Once you complete the degree, you are eligible to take the appropriate examinations for licensure. WSU鈥檚 dental hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
