The College of Engineering has been ranked in the top 20 for research and development (R&D) expenditures, ranked No. 1 for industry-funded aeronautical R&D expenditures and ranked No. 47 for best engineering schools. Our college has access to the Innovation Campus with research facilities, makerspaces, labs and more than 20 on-site companies. WSU is also home to the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) that spends $150 million annually on research.

Student enrollment for the College of Engineering is steadily growing, and recently, 5,000 students earned an impressive $26 million through on-campus internships and co-ops. Currently, 35% of undergraduate students are first-generation students, and our college is on track to become a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). We are proud of our faculty members who have developed new engineering educational methods, such as the freshman design course, Shocker Design Experience (SDX).

The College of Engineering has seven strategic goals:

  2. Accelerate the discovery, creation and transfer of new knowledge.
  3. Capitalize systemically on relevant existing and emerging socioeconomic trends that increase quality educational opportunities.
