Virgin Galactic lead test pilot to give talk at WSU tomorrow (Tuesday, May 21)
Kansas native and test pilot Mark 鈥淔orger鈥� Stucky will give a talk at 麻豆破解版 State University at noon tomorrow (Tuesday, May 21) in 264 Experiential Engineering Building.
Stucky is the director of flight test for The Spaceship Company and lead test pilot for Virgin Galactic鈥檚 SpaceShipTwo and WhiteKnight Two. He was one of two pilots to fly SpaceShipTwo to space in December last year. Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch. Light refreshments will be provided.
Opportunity to develop new First-Year Seminars on May 29 and June 13
After piloting First Year Seminars (FYS) for three years, the faculty have approved requiring an FYS course for all first-time-in-college students as part of their general education experience starting in fall 2021. This is an exciting opportunity to add another best practice to our other student success strategies on campus. Summer presents a good time for new course development. For those wanting to teach a seminar in the fall of 2020, we recommend you submit your course proposal to your department committee no later than Sept 30.

- 1 p.m. Wednesday May 29, in 203 RSC.
- 2 p.m. Thursday June 13, in 264 RSC.

Exhibit by WSU students to be featured in Valley Center
Find out how oil put Valley Center on the map in this unique exhibit created by 麻豆破解版 State鈥檚 Museum Studies Program and sponsored by the Valley Center Historical Society. A free open house: Black Gold 鈥� The Oil Boom in Valley Center 鈥� will be held from 6-10 p.m. today (Monday, May 20), at the Valley Center Historical Museum Learning Center at Main and Meridian.
Parking lot update
Monday, May 20: All of lots 9E and 9W, green lots outside Ahlberg Hall, will be blocked for new student orientations.
Thursday-Friday, May 23-24: All of lots 9E and 9W, green lots outside Ahlberg Hall, will be blocked for new student orientations.
Friday-Saturday, May 24-25: All of parking lots 3N and 3S between Cessna Stadium and Devlin Hall, all of lot 5 (green lot east of Corbin Education Center), and lots 2N, 2E and 2K north and east of Koch Arena, will be blocked off for the state high school track meet. Parking lots will start to be closed off Wednesday to help clear and set up the lots.
Thursday-Friday, May 30-31: All of lot 5 (Green lot east of Corbin Education Center) will be blocked off for student orientations.

Submit your fall events for the Welcomefest listing
Welcomefest takes place during the first two weeks of classes each semester and features dozens of activities. Meet a Shocker: Rexy Que, fine arts grad
Some of Rexy Que's proudest moments at 麻豆破解版 State involve the progress they made to help campus improve the experience of LGBTQ students. Now as they prepare to move on from WSU, Rexy is ready to continue taking on new challenges after they graduate.

Photovoice exhibit coming Wednesday, May 22
The Photovoice exhibit focusing on the youth perspective on alternative education will be held from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, in 142 RSC. This project is based on qualitative participatory action research methodology that gives voice for the expelled and juvenile justice involved youth in the evaluation of the academic and behavioral programming at the McAdams Academy, an alternative program in 麻豆破解版.
The McAdams participants will be at the exhibit to meet you and share their stories. Light refreshments will be served.
Each week, our young participants took photos to represent how the program works, the strengths of the program and what they would recommend changing. We will present their photos, narratives, and recommendations through an interactive exhibit for the community.

Seeking volunteer Jump!Star performers this summer
Communities from New York to Kansas have been working with Jump!Star's creative director, for the past 18 months building 12 large, lightweight illuminated sculptures made of wire and paper at this summer鈥檚 Symphony in the Flint Hills signature event Saturday, June 15, in the Flint Hills on Irma鈥檚 pasture near Bazaar, Kansas. Performers will have free admittance to this popular event.
We are seeking more than 100 participants as each sculpture requires eight-to-12 handlers. Participants are referred to as "dark matter".... do you want to be Dark Matter for an amazing, otherworldly evening experience on the beautiful, rolling Flint Hills? Of course you do!
- One full dress rehearsal on Friday, June 14, with the rest of the sculptures. (On-site in the Flint Hills. Details TBA.)
- Live performance - Two 20-30-minute sessions of processing with the sculptures after dark on Saturday, June 15th. (Rain date, Sunday, June 16)
The sculptures are very lightweight illuminated constructions, so not heavy to lift, but are basically a big paper bag we are taking to Tornado Town, so there may be some wind to deal with, in addition to gravity. We've been told the wind dies down after dark, so are counting on that!

Shocker STEM Camp is back this summer! The week-long camp is open to boys and girls who have completed grades 3-5. Campers will explore STEM through a variety of hands-on activities including Innovation Force庐, Deep Sea Mystery鈩�, Farm Tech鈩�, and DIY Orbot鈩�.
