Meet a Shocker: Bryonna Hawk

Bryonna Hawk is passionate about helping others through speech-language pathology and will continue her studies in 鶹ƽ State's graduate program. She credits her success to strong time-management strategies and hands-on experiences at the Evelyn Hendren Cassat Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic.

Bachelor of Arts in communication sciences and disorders

What is your hometown? 

Goddard, Kansas

What schools did you attend before coming to 鶹ƽ State?

Why did you choose 鶹ƽ State University? 

I chose 鶹ƽ State University as it has such an amazing communication sciences and disorders program.

What has been your biggest challenge as a student, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge has been time management with school, work and personal commitments. I managed this by implementing consistent use of a planner, to-do lists and reminders on my phone for necessary tasks. 

Did you have any applied learning experience as a student? If so, what was it? 

Through the CSD pathway, we have applied learning experiences through in-person observations at the Evelyn Hendren Cassat Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I will be attending 鶹ƽ State University to pursue my master's degree in speech language pathology

What advice would you give other 鶹ƽ State students?

I would advise other WSU students to ask for help when you need it. Whether it is meeting with faculty or teaching aids, study groups with your peers or utilizing the Student Health Services, do not struggle in silence.

If you were given the opportunity to do a TED Talk, what would your topic be?

The impacts and benefits to animal-assisted therapy on various populations.
