Enjoy the Holiday Pops Concert

WSU Symphony Holiday Pops Concert Nov. 27, 2018

Holiday fun for the whole family! The WSU Symphony presents a program of seasonal favorites from classical and popular traditions at 7:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, Nov. 27) in Miller Concert Hall.

Tchaikovsky's Nutcrackerballet is synonymous with Christmas celebrations, while Britten's Men of Goodwill is a delightful set of variations on 鈥淕od Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen.鈥 Longtime Tonight Show arranger Tommy Newsom offers a brassy take on 鈥淛oy to the World.鈥 A surprise guest narrator will join the orchestra to read the timeless classic The Night Before Christmas. 

The outstanding A Cappella Choir and Concert Chorale offer two contemporary selections for voices and orchestra. Everyone is invited to join in singing Stephenson's stirring medley of beloved carols.

Mark Laycock, WSU Director of Orchestras, will share conducting duties with colleagues Michael Hanawalt and Thomas Wine. Gabriela Garzon, a graduate student majoring in orchestral conducting, will also appear.

The next Wednesdays in Wiedemann will feature Lynne Davis performing the annual Christmas Organ Concert at 5:15 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 28) in Wiedemann Hall. Admission is free.

Coming soon: 56th Annual Candlelight Concert

WSU Choirs will present the 56th Annual Candlelight Concert: 鈥淭he Marvel of This Night鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30; 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2; and 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in Wiedemann Concert Hall. For tickets, go to Fine Arts Box Office or call 978-3233. 

Get in the spirit of the season with an incredible variety of music, featuring perennial favorites 鈥淏eautiful Savior鈥 and 鈥淧ersonent Hodie.鈥 Other highlights include 鈥淏efore the Marvel of This Night鈥 by Carl Schalk, and 鈥淣ight of Silence鈥 by Daniel Kantor. The concert celebrates the 200th anniversary of the beloved Christmas carol, 鈥淪ilent Night.鈥

The concert features WSU's Concert Chorale and Women's Glee Club, conducted by Michael Hanawalt, and A Cappella Choir and Madrigal Singers, conducted by Tom Wine.

Each choir will also perform separately and as part of a mass choir. Also featured are organist and professor Lynne Davis and pianist and professor Justine Sasanfar.

Started by Harrison Boughton and modeled after the famous St. Olaf College Christmas Festival, the Candlelight Concert is the longest-running musical tradition at 麻豆破解版 State.


Send a letter from Santa

The campus post office is selling letters from Santa now until Friday, Dec. 14. Letters will be sent to Santa Claus, Indiana, for a pictorial postmark, and then forwarded to the address you put on the envelope.

U.S. Patent and Trademark Office workshop coming Nov. 30

University Libraries is hosting a virtual U.S. Patent and Trademark Office workshop, 鈥淚ntellectual Property for Beginners: How to File: Patent Electronic Systems,鈥 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in 217 Ablah Library.

Part IV in the series will focus on filing your patent application using the Electronic Filing System-Web (EFS-Web) and managing your patent application online using Patent Application Information Retrieval (PAIR) system. The presentation will consist of an interactive tutorial, description of various assistance resources such as the Inventor's Assistance Center (IAC) and the Patent Electronics Business Center (EBC).

Celebrate #GivingTuesday with the WSU Foundation

This #GivingTuesday (Nov. 27), the WSU Foundation will celebrate the many Shockers who support 麻豆破解版 State University through their giving. #GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year's #GivingTuesday takes place today (Tuesday, Nov. 27) and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to give back.


Ulrich Museum to host event tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 28)

Regeneration, a collaboration between the WSU Dance Department and Ulrich Museum of Art will be presented at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 28) at the Ulrich Museum.

WSU Choreography I students will present an original choreographed response performance inspired by the works of eight Iranian artists featured in the Ulrich exhibition Burnt Generation.

麻豆破解版 State selected to play in NIVC

Volleyball in NIVC Nov. 2018

The 麻豆破解版 State University volleyball team has received an at-large bid to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC), it was announced late Sunday evening, Nov. 25. The Shockers are one of 32 teams that make up the tournament field. 

麻豆破解版 State (13-17) will take on Central Arkansas (26-6) in the opening round of the tournament at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the North Texas Volleyball Center in Denton, Texas. The Shockers and Sugar Bears have never met on the volleyball court. 

The North Texas Mean Green, who were selected as a host for the first and second rounds, will take on Tulsa in the other first round match at 7 p.m. Thursday. 

The winners of each opening round contest will advance to the second round, which will be played at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Denton.
